• Sports Medicine


    Sports Medicine services for the Bismarck Public Schools are provided by Sanford Bismarck.

    Certified Athletic Trainers (ATCs) from Sanford Orthopedics and Sports Medicine are present at the following athletic events for the prevention of athletic injuries through the application of protective tapings, wraps and braces, and assist in the design of practices to help reduce the incidence of injury:

    Fall
    Home varsity, JV, sophomore, freshman, and middle school football games (will travel with varsity football to all road games, including playoffs)
    Home varsity boys' soccer games
    Home varsity boys' and girls' cross country meets
    Home varsity volleyball matches/tournaments

    Winter
    Home varsity and JV boys' and girls' ice hockey games
    Home varsity boys' and girls' basketball games
    Home varsity wrestling duals/tournaments
    Home gymnastics events

    Spring
    Home varsity girls' soccer games
    Home varsity boys' and girls' track/field meets
    Home varsity baseball games
    Home varsity softball games

    High Schools
    ATCs are also present in the athletic training rooms at Bismarck, Century and Legacy High School on a daily basis unless there is a sports conflict.

    Middle Schools
    During the school year, an ATC will be present two days a week for a minimum of one hour per day at each Bismarck Middle School (Horizon, Wachter, and Simle) to follow up with or evaluate athletes who have been injured in a practice, game, or event.

    Ice Hockey
    During the hockey season, an ATC will be present for a minimum of two days a week for visits at the VFW Sports Center and Capital Ice Complex to follow up with or evaluate athletes who have been injured in a practice, game or event for a minimum of three hours per week.

  • The ATC will arrive at the following times prior to the scheduled start of events for coverage:

    Fall
    Varsity football games - 3 hours
    JV and freshman football games - 1 hour
    Middle school football games - 30 minutes
    Varsity boys' soccer games - 45 minutes
    Varsity boys' and girls' cross country meets - 30 minutes
    Varsity volleyball matches/tournaments - 1 hour

    Winter
    Varsity and JV boys' and girls' ice hockey games - 30 minutes
    Varsity boys' and girls' basketball games - 1 hour
    Varsity wrestling duals/tournaments - 30 minutes
    Gymnastics events - 30 minutes

    Spring
    Varsity girls' soccer games - 45 minutes
    Varsity boys' and girls' track/field meets - 30 minutes
    Varsity baseball games - 30 minutes
    Varsity softball games - 30 minutes
