• Assistive Technology Services

The term "Assistive Technology Service" refers to any service that directly assists a child with a disability in the selection, acquisition, or use of an assistive technology device. An "Assistive Technology Device" is defined under federal law as "any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of a child with a disability".

A wide variety of staff can be involved in the delivery of assistive technology services such as special education teachers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech-language pathologists. In addition, the Bismarck Special Education Department has employed Assistive Technology Specialists to assist teams with selection, acquisition, and use of devices.

Please contact your local school or the Special Education Department at 701-323-4028 for more information about Assistive Technology Services.
