Extended School Year
"Extended School Year" (ESY) services refers to special education and/or related services that are provided beyond or outside of the regular school year; in accordance with each student's IEP; and at no cost to parents. Unlike some other summer services which are available to any student, ESY services are available only to those special education students who meet ESY eligibility criteria. Key factors in determining eligibility for ESY include the likelihood of significant regression of previously learned skills during a break in service and limited or delayed recoupment after services resume. Eligibility for ESY services must be determined annually by each student's IEP team.
