    The Counseling Department is located on the second floor in the hallway, room 278.

    Counselors are available from 7:50 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. and by appointment


    Vision Statement

    Horizon Middle School students will acquire personal/social, academic, and career competencies and will apply this knowledge to be successful adults using the skills learned through the comprehensive school counseling program.

    Mission Statement

    The Horizon Middle School Counseling Department is a valuable resource that provides a safe environment, encouraging students to be lifelong learners and problem solvers as they strive to reach their fullest potential through academic, career, and personal/social growth.


    Services We Offer

    New Student Orientation & Scheduling - Counselors will assist new students and families as they transition to Horizon Middle School as well as make the necessary schedule changes.

    Individual Counseling - Students may consult with the counselors regarding academic, social, or personal issues before, during, & after school. Appointments are not necessary.

    Classroom Guidance - Counselors will periodically go into classrooms to teach lessons on various academic, career, and personal/social topics.

    Testing Services - Information concerning the annual state assessments and MAP can be found in the Counseling Office.

    Career Information - Students receive career education & guidance throughout the school year.

    Referrals - Counselors are available to help students and parents when referrals are necessary for health & community services.

    Parent/Teacher Conferences - These may be arranged by the counselor upon the request of either the parent or the teacher.

    Homebound Program - In some cases when students are confined to the hospital or at home for a lengthy period, the school system provides visiting teacher assistance. Arrangements must be made by the counselors. A doctor's statement on inability to attend classes is required for this program.
