The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act a federal law first enacted in 1987, states that each state educational agency is to ensure that children and youth who are homeless have equal access to the same free, appropriate public education as provided to all other students.

Families, with school aged children, experiencing homelessness have the right to....

    • Attend school.
    • Stay at the school they attended before becoming homeless (within reason) if the parent/guardian so choose.
    • Transportation services to and from school of origin (dependent on situation.)
    • Participate in school programs and activities and receive the same school services that are offered to other children.
    • Title 1 Services.
    • Free/reduced meals.

If you, or someone you know, might be experiencing homelessness, please contact the Coordinator to start the process for accessing services.
